{phone dump friday}

Let me just start by saying that I am way, way behind on reading blogs and especially on doing my weekly bump posts for the ladybug. Drew and I have been super busy and by the time I think about having him take a belly pic I'm already in my pajamas/washed my face/can't force my behind off the couch. I promise to get some this week! Poor ladybug - second child syndrome already. :-)

I shared the playroom photos earlier this week, but I found one on my phone that {I think} shows the true wall color a lot better. My phone takes better pics than my Nikon sometimes - go figure.

I've embraced the relax when you can approach to life. Bath time for Asher = feet up for mommy. Win-win.

A big part of moving to a new town {especially in a whole new state} is finding all of the family staples. For us, one of those is marshmallow fluff. Yum. I'm a big fan and Asher loves it too. We got a little scared after visiting 3 grocery stores, Wal-Mart, and Target with no fluff to be found! Raleigh came through in the 11th hour when the grocery store #4 had some! We're grateful we don't have to move again.

I'm trying to pick a paint color for the nursery and went a little crazy with samples. Drew asked me if I was planning a madras pattern, which {since I can't pick} I think is a great idea. :-)

When my mother-in-law came to visit on Tuesday she brought "some clothes" that another little girl had outgrown.

oh my!

Tuesday was also Drew and my 8th anniversary. He surprised me with sunflowers! I love, love how cheery they are!

We've had beautiful weather here over the last week so Asher and I have made eating lunch outside our regular thing

Today, however, it's supposed to be 105, so we're inside. Spinning.

Last, but not least in my book, on Wednesday I had the whole day to myself and treated ladybug and I to some very delicious Mexican food. Did I feel a little silly eating in a restaurant alone? Sure. Was it worth having the whole basket of chips to myself? Oh yes. Very yes. {can you buy those chips somewhere?? Love them!}

I won't be blogging much next week. I'll probably check in with some phone pics - let's be honest - but for the most part I'll be in unplugged vacation mode. Yay! Look forward to a massive recap and photo dump from my camera when we get back. :-)

Happy Friday!

happy cake

We got a quick visit from Drew's parents over the past 2 days.  They stopped by to see us and our new home on their way to Florida - Raleigh is the perfect halfway stopping point!  It was an especially great time to visit because Tuesday was mine and Drew's anniversary and my mother-in-law's birthday!

Eight years ago she was nice enough to agree to share her birthday with our wedding day.  Asher is grateful because it meant...happy cake!

{yum - this lemon blueberry cake from Whole Foods was so delicious}

We could barely keep him away from it.  This boy loves him some cake.

I think its hilarious how his fork is in ready position for the second we were done singing "happy birthday".

Yesterday Asher was a lucky duck and spent the day getting spoiled by his grandparents while I did a ton of errands {and got spoiled myself a little}.

I had a doctor's appointment - all is well with ladybug...

went to the DMV - I passed the written exam and am now a licensed driver in the state of NC...

picked up a bunch of paint samples for ladybug's nursery - I may never pick one...

and got a pedicure!

Phew.  Good, but busy day.  On Saturday Drew, Asher and I fly to Florida to meet up with his parents and celebrate the 4th of July like we did last year.  Hoping we get this view of the fireworks again!!

sprinkled

Although our community has a pool, Drew and I thought it would be fun for Asher to have a sprinkler to play in.  It gets HOT here so any way to cool off is welcome!

It took Asher a minute to understand the point of the spraying water.

Being the good Daddy that he is, Drew happily gave A a lesson in sprinkler jumping.

ha ha - go Drew!  Asher thought that maneuver was pretty hilarious {I did too}.

After that show A got braver and stepped up to the sprinkler himself a few times.  Then things got really fun because we showed him the squirt gun we bought.

Look out - he's armed.

Drew came to the rescue again and showed him how to use it.  Luckily for us he now understands how to load and unload the water, but isn't quite strong enough to really shoot it far.

I can see us using the sprinkler a lot this summer - it makes a certain someone very happy!

let's play

We had a fun {and productive} weekend around here.  On Saturday Drew, Asher, and I went on a little new town adventure - we hit the Raleigh flea market!  Can I just say, it was a lot busier and more awesome than I was expecting.  Sure, there was a lot of just junky stuff, but there were also tons of treasures.

Like this little guy.

He totally found a home on our bookshelves.

I also found a really beautiful frame to refinish for ladybug's nursery - photos to come...

Drew got some iron hooks to paint and use for our keys.  We've been searching for a "key solution" and these plus the shelf from Target work great.

On Sunday we tried a new church - with mixed reviews... - and finished up some other jobs.  All in all, a good weekend!  My in laws are coming to visit us here for the first time tomorrow, so we're really busy getting ready for them.  :-)

For now, though, I wanted to share Asher's playroom with you!

This is one of my favorite rooms in our house.  We spend a lot of time in it!  I love that this playroom {or any kid's space really} gave me free rein with color.  Most of the time I'm trying to create an overall look that works with furniture/bedding/window treatments we already have, but in this room we had nothing so I was free to do anything!

Here's the view as you enter...

Asher has a little reading and art nook in the back

Of course, the train table is here

along with a new acquisition - the house that Drew built!

I found this wall art at HomeGoods and love all of the fun colors in it.

There are a couple other little accents around - like the paper lanterns

and garland above the couch.

I feel like the paint color didn't come through well at all in these photos.  It's actually a nice, bright blueish green color {"Breaktime" by Sherwin-Williams}.  The builder left a ton of it in our attic, so I'm going to use the same color in the kid's bathroom - one of these days.

I still have a couple projects in mind for the walls, but those are on the back burner for now.  Updates when and if they ever become reality.  Asher loves his "pway rum" and so do I.  :-)

{phone dump friday}

I missed last week, so we have some phone dump catching up to do!

I've been in full-on decorating and organizing mode around here. On one hand it's super fun, but on the other hand - oh my - the decisions are tough! My favorite room to do so far has been Asher's playroom. It's so close to being ready to show you all, but for now, here's a sneak peak...

Last Friday we went out for dinner as a family. Asher is really fun to go out with now. He's a lot more likely to eat something off the menu, so I don't have to bring a ton of food with me and he loves to people watch. Mostly that involves staring at innocent bystanders, then hollering "hi!" at them until they respond. :-)

He also adores his daddy.

After dinner we hit a local frozen yogurt shop for a treat. Drew and I were both really full from dinner so we just ordered a kid's dish for Asher. Um, I think I figured out the obesity epidemic in America. This is for kids?? Ha ha - Ash thought he hit the jackpot!

It a bit of convincing to pry Asher away from this mountain of frozen deliciousness, but a promise to stop by the train on the way back to our car did it. He climbed up onto the caboose with Drew and thought he was pretty cool stuff.

While the boys were exploring the chugger, ladybug and I had a photo shoot. Guess who found her shadow!

It's no wonder - check out the bump. Getting bigger!

Nothing says summer like special lunch trips to Chick-Fil-A...

and new summer shoes!

Last, but definitely not least, I got my birthday gift this week. My bday was last month, but I postponed getting my big gift until we were settled in the new house. It's an....embroidery machine!! I'm SO excited! After researching online and reading the manual a ton I finally figured out how it get it running.

Ready to start my first run...

Can't wait to practice more and start actually making things for Asher and little Miss!
