snuggles

Every once in awhile I'll look over and catch Asher loving on his blankie.

I think it is just too sweet how much he loves this little piece of fabric.

I think these moments are important for the days when I mostly see this face...

Love him either way {but, honestly - prefer the first. ha!}

more plane gazing

Despite the increasing cold temperatures {notice his heavier coat - ha!} Asher still loves to stand outside looking for airplanes.

Me? I'm over by the door shivering and begging him to come inside.

I swear this boy never admits to being cold! It's kind of impressive.

It's worth it - I guess - to see him so happy. :-)

{phone dump friday}

Yesterday Asher and I were invited to come to a music class with our friends Jen and Taylor. Asher loved it! He loves music so I figured it would be a big hit - we're signing up for the spring semester! On the way out Taylor asked Asher if he would hold her hand. To my immense surprise he grabbed her hand right away and they held hands the whole walk to the car. It was TOO cute! :-)

After our fun musical morning Asher took a great nap {yay - music class bonus!} and when A got up we headed to the park. It topped 65 here - crraaazy - so we just had to play outside.

On Wednesday {we're working backwards through the week today - thrilling change up, eh?} I let Asher pick out his pants and he chose these Christmas pajama pants. Ha!

I made a fun Easter wreath with my mom a few weeks ago and have been waiting to put it on my door. The Facebook consensus was that Ash Wednesday was a great day to start the Easter season so that's when I put it up. Also hoping it encourages my neighbor to take down his Christmas wreaths...

We're going to Florida in a few weeks so Asher and I spent Monday at the mall getting him some warm weather clothes that fit. How cute are his chubby toddler feet in these flips? Ahh! Love it.

We also swung by Target and found a great swimsuit and rash guard. I was having so much trouble finding a cute set for less than $30 at the mall, but these pieces were only $10 each - score!

As a surprise for being such a good boy during all of our shopping I got Asher this little Elmo music player. His 2 favorites - Elmo and music! Oh my, he l-o-v-e-s it!!

Finally, our biggest news from the week - Asher tried drinking out of an open cup and did awesome at it! There were some dribbles, of course, but for a first attempt I was happy. We'll still be using a straw cup a lot, but I want Ash to be moving towards using regular cups too. We'll get there when we get there. :-)

Happy weekend everyone!

baking with mommy

Asher and I expanded on our repertoire in the kitchen by making chocolate chip mini cheesecakes. YUM! It was my week to bring snack to my small group, so I went {where else?} to Pinterest for inspiration.

My little sous chef was a huge help. He placed all of the cupcake liners in the pan for me. Then he showed me the eggs all the while saying "egg. mama - egg!". It was pretty exciting stuff.

{and yes. that's two eggs in one hand - go Asher!}

Be still my Mommy heart - the boy has an egg in each hand! I think it's a good sign of where I am in mommy-ing that I took his picture with the eggs, rather than rushing at him to save the ingredients. ha!

One egg got a fairly sizeable crack when Asher smashed placed the egg back in the bowl, but that's ok. How else will he learn what 'fragile' means? :-) After we got the ingredients all straight I put Asher on his next {and, as it turns out, final} job - crushing the graham crackers for the crust.

Is there a better job for a two year old boy?? Seriously!

He couldn't believe his good luck. I gave him his hammer and let him have at it.

After pounding the graham crackers into crumbs Asher needed a quick cracker snack {hey - you need to test the food as you're cooking} and was done with baking.

I finished the cheesecakes by myself, but that's ok. I have a feeling there's a lot of baking in our future.

playing with daddy

There are few things that make A happier than some play time with his Daddy. Over the weekend, in celebration of Drew's birthday, of course, the boys got in a lot of playtime. Isn't chasing a rubber ball down the driveway while being closely followed by a toddler cowboy YOUR idea of an awesome birthday?? :-)

Regardless of the occassion, Drew has a lot of skills that impress a 2 year old boy. Well, some of his skills impress everyone.

Exhibit A:

That's just a taste of why I married him, but you're starting to get the idea. Ha!

Asher knows a good thing when he sees it. We love you Daddy!

just ducky

This has been the weirdest winter. One day it's warm enough for spring jackets, the next day the weather folks are threatening snow flurries, then the next it's raining. That's where we found ourselves last Friday.

Asher was begging to go outside, so I dressed him up in his rain gear and let him have at it.

This rain coat and boots are hand-me-downs from his big cousin, so this is the first rain day where they fit {mostly. both are still a little big, but I think that adds to the adorableness}.

Of course, there were puddles to splash in

balls to chase around

and just some 'sploring to do.

Looking forward to lots of April showers with my duckling!

happy birthday drew!

Asher and I want to wish his Daddy a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!

It was two years ago that you had your first birthday as a Daddy.

Things have only gotten more exciting since then. :-)

Asher adores his Dada and spends all day asking about you. And who wouldn't wonder where you are when, clearly, the fun follows Drew.

Many happy returns my dear, from the ones who love you most.

{phone dump friday}

Our first week back from grandparent vacation has been such a busy one! Asher had his Valentine's party with our Mothering Matters group {Bible study for me/play group for A}. These moms and kiddos are all so great - we love being in this group with them!
We had one nice weather day and went, where else, the park! The sand area wasn't busy for the first time in forever, so Asher took some time to really check it out closely. Can't wait to take him back to the beach in a few weeks. :-)
I bought milk at Trader Joe's the other day and didn't notice until I went to open it that it doesn't have a plastic spout like most paper cartons do these days. It's a way old-school push the corner open kind. Love it - ha!
While we were at TJ's the cashier in our line gave Asher this huge strip of stickers. I think that made him a trusted source of knowledge in A's eyes because when Alex suggested to Asher that he put the stickers on his hat Ash couldn't wait to try it. Ha ha...
Asher and I have been spending his breakfast time reading over his Sunday school lessons and working on the memory verse inside them.
This got me thinking that I'd really like to have memory verses available to Asher all the time. He doesn't yet have the vocabulary to recite verses but soon he will and I want reading and studying scripture to be an automatic part of his life by then. When I saw this idea on Pinterest I knew it was just what we needed! Asher loves, loves saying his ABCs so this concept is right up his alley.

The website has the printables available - all I did was save them on a flash drive and take it to Office Max to have them color printed, then laminated. Once I got home I cut the individual cards apart, punched a hole in the corner, and hooked them together with a book ring. Easy and cheap!
Ending on a loving note - Valentines Day! I'm one spoiled girl with 2 boys who were vying for the honor of being my Valentine.
I have to admit - Asher took the lead with his gift
and the note in his card.
Although, tomorrow is Drew's birthday, so I should probably pick him. :-)
Happy Friday friends!
