happy easter!

Asher and Hadley want to wish you all a very happy Easter!

We are celebrating the empty tomb with our family this weekend and hope you all will be rejoicing as well.

The angel said to the women,
"Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here; He is risen, just as He said.  Come and see the place where He lay."
Matthew 28:5-6

Alleluia!

hadley fern {five months}

Hadley Fern, you are FIVE months old!

Wow - I can't believe I just typed that.  This past month was definitely the fastest one yet.  Hadley, you have been changing before our eyes.  You love to tell me stories - all you need are some actual words and we'll be chatting up a storm.

You also started complaining when I leave your line of sight.  I don't think it's personal, because you're happy with pretty much anyone - you just want somebody to play with and talk to.  :-)

About a week ago you started sleeping 12 hours in a row at night!  Wow!  I don't know where that came from {Asher didn't do that until 6 months old} but I'm not complaining or questioning it.  You go, sister.

That's where the good sleep news ends, because, girly, you're still an awful napper.  Let's work on that ok?  Bless your heart - I think a lot of it is my fault, actually.  We are often on the go with Asher's activities when you would like to be sleeping and you are NOT a fan of snoozing in the car seat anymore.  There are too many exciting things to observe, you can't rest.  This wouldn't be a big deal except that by 4 or 5 you are so tired and cranky - mommy isn't a fan.  On a good day you'll take 3ish naps, but they aren't very consistent yet and are pretty short.  On a bad day it's catnaps of 30 mins or less off and on throughout the day.

One hard thing we learned this month is that you've followed in big brother's footsteps with a milk protein allergy.  About 2 weeks ago I saw some blood in your poo and knew right away what that meant.  Asher had the same exact symptoms at your age - boo.  Mommy has eliminated all dairy from my diet and I'm hoping that will solve the problem.  This diet stinks, but I love you darling and don't mind doing it for you in the least.

Because of your allergy we're holding off on any food for now.  You breastfeed every 2-3 hours during the day.  This sounds like a lot, but I'm guessing it's the reason you can sleep so long at night so it's fine by me!

Hadley, you rolled over from back to belly a couple more times this month.  You hate ending up on your belly so you don't do it unless there's something you really, really want that's out of reach.  ha!  You do try to sit straight up a lot.  Abs of steel going on here!

You're also in love with your thumb.  The pacifier has been tossed aside for this always available, always ready friend.  This might be a problem some day, but for now it's just darn adorable.

At 5 months, Hadley...
  • weighs about 13 pounds
  • wears size 3-6 month and 6 months
  • wears size 2 diapers
  • is still exclusively breastfed and eats every 2-3 hours during the day
  • wakes up to eat 1x at night about twice a week
  • sleeps 12 hours straight at night about 5x a week
  • is still working on being a better napper
  • adores her big brother - she watches his every move
  • is so smiley and happy most of the time
  • loves to talk, coo, and squawk at me
  • rolls over now and then
  • reaches for toys and loves to play in the bouncy chair and play mat
  • drools like crazy and puts everything in her mouth
  • sucks her thumb to soothe herself to sleep {see ya paci}
  • stopped being swaddled at about 4.5 months
  • loves baths!

Hadley Fern, everyone comments about what a sweet little girl you are.  You are so quick to smile and charm your way into the hearts of strangers.  We are so blessed to have you in our family.  Thanks for being our girl - we love you!

hadley's first easter {kind of}

Even though it isn't Easter quite yet, I've been on this merry-go-round enough times to know you never, ever leave all of the picture taking until the day of the big event.  Whenever I've done that I've either walked away with zero shots and a lot of frustration or I end up missing all the fun because I'm behind the camera.  I'll definitely get a few pics on Hadley's first {honest-to-goodness} Easter, but we had a little photo shoot on Palm Sunday when she was all dolled up.

The sweetness, oh my, the sweetness.  love.

Happy Easter week, friends!

now i see

It turns out that Asher isn't against having a sibling.  It's just that I provided him with the wrong kind.  His 9 year old cousin Owen visited yesterday and Asher had the time of his life.  This kid needed a big brother, not a baby sister.  Oops.  ha!

There was quite a bit of basketball happening from within the trampoline...

and some basketball watching from the couch.

A bit of wrestling poor PopPop...

and the obligatory picture for mommy.

Drew called this one "A Barrel of Fun" - think maybe I shouldn't have pinched them all before sitting them down?  ha!

See, I told you Asher loves his cousin.  He rarely took his eyes off what Owen was doing.  So sweet.

We love seeing you, Owen, Jenn, and Chris.  Come and see us again soon please!

hi there, pretty lady

Hadley was begging me to take her picture the other day.

So I did.

A couple times.

:-)

Happy Thursday!

brother and sister

Tonight I was doing dishes and I heard both baby giggles and Asher laughter coming from the living room.  I snuck over with my phone camera {just in case} to see what was going on and saw this...

Bless him, Asher was really playing with his sister.  And did you catch his unprompted kiss and hug for her at the end?  melt my heart

I guess something about throwing this paper in the air really struck Hadley's funny bone because she couldn't get enough.  Asher loved making her laugh and whenever she didn't laugh he'd say "Hadley?  Hadley?" - like maybe she missed it. ha!

She thinks he walks on water and watches everything he does.  I love, love seeing them grow closer.

Just yesterday we were at the store and Asher was making her laugh in the stroller too.  He's a total ham and loves a willing audience!  Hopefully this is the start of more brother/sister interactions!

{phone dump tuesday}

Surprise mid-week phone dump!

Last week Drew was traveling for work, so the 3 of us at home had a few adventures.

Hadley did some smiling...

and some snuggling...

and some thumb sucking...

and took a bottle!  We've been working on this and I discovered that having her lay in the bouncy seat encourages her to take it much better.  It must be something about the distance between herself and mommy that does the trick.  I'll take it!

She also grudgingly did some tummy time...

and graduated from simply taking a bottle to holding her own.  ha!

Asher wore himself out at the bouncy place.  He l-o-v-e-s it there!  It took me forever to convince him it was time to leave.  :-)

He also started a sticker reward chart.  Drew and I are trying to do more positive motivation for him and I thought this might be worth a shot.  He earns a sticker anytime he does something good - being nice to Hadley, obeying right away, not having a fit when I expect one, etc.  5 stickers = a prize from the basket of goodies I put together.  3 "stars" = a trip to the jumping place!  He's already earned a few stickers and I'm hoping it will be an encouragement to him.

Of course, with Daddy being away we had some moments.  Ahh - this boy can be a handful!

I spent some time in the evenings getting caught up on baby gifts.  You saw quite a few of them last week, but here's the final one.  I think I'm all set to see our family at Easter now!

Happy Tuesday, friends!
