like father, like son

Remember a few weeks ago when I posted about how much Asher looks like baby me?

At the end  of the post I showed a pretty hilarious photo of young Drew shakin' like he just didn't care and implied that Asher will look more like Drew once he can run naked around the pool.

You know what, don't strain your memory banks, let's just see it one more time.  :-)

Hello sweet cheeks!

Well, apparently Asher can't wait for running around or pool weather to be more like his Daddy.  He loves his Daddy.

Look what I found on my monitor during yesterday's naptime.

Porky Pig party in Asher's crib!

Needless to say, I woke A up to get re-diapered.  Since he is on Amoxicillan for his ear infection there has been a little diarrhea happening and I didn't even want to think about the mess potential brewing up there.

It's a onesie {or duct tape} for naptimes from now on!

team loyalty

At 15 months Asher already has a strong sense of loyalty to his Daddy's team.

I love Asher's shocked/scared look at being put in a Phillies cap.  :-)

Sorry Pop Pop, I'm a Yankees fan.

Remember?

Here, you wear it.

We can still be friends.

a case of the sickies

Asher got diagnosed with his first ear infection this morning.

It's this one, Mom.

Another baby's first memory for the baby book blog!

Poor Ash has been sick for awhile.  About 2 weeks ago he got some vaccines at his well-baby visit and I was told that he might get a little sick from it and could stay sick for up to 2 weeks.  Not an hour later Asher's nose started to run.  Awesome.

He's never had any reactions to a vaccine before, so I wasn't sure what to expect.  The next day we headed to North Carolina and I figured it would clear up in a few days.

Fast forward 2 weeks and he's still sick, so I took him to the pediatrician this morning.  Lo and behold, ear infection!

I. Feel. Terrible.

Bless his little heart, Ash has been such a trooper.  He really didn't act sick, just had the runny nose/sneezing/coughing thing going on.  His mood was fantastic!  The only time he seemed sick was at night.  He's been waking up and crying a ton, but I blamed the huge molars that are coming through.

At any rate, after the 2 week mark was up with no improvement, I decided to get him checked out for something more serious.  And there it was - one toddler sized eardrum, red and inflamed.

Now we're the proud owners of some amoxicillan and a new medicine dropper.  Here's hoping he starts feeling and sleeping better soon!

rub-a-dub-dub

Is there anything more wonderful than a baby fresh from the bath tub?

I think not.  :-)

right on, target

I went to Target earlier for a few items and look what I found in the baby feeding aisle...

{Sorry it's so dark - I only had my phone camera on me}

If it hadn't been small for a little baby I totally would have bought one for Asher.  It's just too true!

Hope you all are having a great weekend.  Asher and I are back from North Carolina and are enjoying our time with Drew before the work week starts.  More on our southern adventures soon!

swinging

It's suppose to snow in DC on Sunday.

SNOW

If that isn't a 4-letter word, I don't know what is.

In an attempt to soak up all the warmth we can while here in the south, Asher and I headed to the playground yesterday {it was 80 degrees - sigh}.  This boy loves him some swinging.

Although you can't always tell that he's having fun by his expression...

Most of the time he looked like this.  And believe me, when I tried to take him out there was a lot of grabbing the swing ropes and crying.  ha!

We were actually able to go swing at the church were Grammy works, so we got to visit with her for a few minutes.  Someone was getting a little hungry for lunch by this point and not being very smiley - guess who.

As a complete side note - how cute is Asher's little dino outfit?  Yay for the clearance rack last fall!

I'm a big believer that no man {young or old; guns or no guns; 'The Situation' or not} should go sleeveless, so A is sporting a onesie under his bitty tank top.  :-)

Swinging and warm weather {minus tank top clad men} is the best!

the magic word

Asher loves carrots!

I got tired of him demanding MORE, so we've been working on the sign for please.

Little smarty pants picked it up really quickly!  Ash will occasionally do it without prompting {mostly when he wants something off limits, like cookies}, but usually he waits for me to ask him to "say please."  Then he's quick to do the sign and look up at me through his eye lashes.

It worked!

So darn cute - how will I ever say no again?  :o)

picture perfect

Last month my parents celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary {wow!}.  As a gift, my sisters and I went together to give them a gift card towards a new camera.  Since I was visiting this week we decided to go out and get the camera!

New cameras are fun, but all the fancy settings take some getting used to - which means taking lots and lots of photos.  Who's the best subject for all that practice?  Well, this little cutie, of course! {Asher - not me.  ha!}

Asher loves playing basketball with his Pop Pop.  It is March Madness, after all.

We're having such a fun visit!  {and I'm loving this new camera - too bad it lives in NC!}

just my luck

Yesterday Asher and I were traveling so I didn't get a chance to post him in all his St. Patty's Day glory.

We headed south to Raleigh to visit my parents for the week.  So far he's been spoiled rotten and is having tons of fun!  He really is one lucky kid.  :o)

Sorry for the blurry photos.  Stupid, slow camera.  If I happen across a pot 'o gold this weekend you can bet on where the coins are going - new camera for mama!  {unlikely, but a girl can dream. ha!}

More about our fun times in NC to come!

fifteen months

Asher, you are 15 months old!

{actually, you turned 15 months on Sunday}

Today was A's well-baby visit to the pediatrician, so I wanted to have those stats before posting.  He got a clean bill of health and his doctor said he's the happiest 15 month old she's ever examined.  I'm pretending she doesn't say that to every baby.  ha ha!

Little man has grown a lot since his 12 month visit...

weight:  22 pounds, 13oz {28%}
height:  31"  {47%}
head circumference:  18.5cm  {45%}

This visit called for two vaccinations - Ash did great!  There were some big tears, but only for a couple of minutes.

Doesn't he look like a tough guy showing off his MMR vaccine band-aid?  :o)

Asher is doing so much these days!  I feel like he's learning and doing new things at an exponential rate.

At 15 months, Asher:
  • eats a combo of solids and purees {Dr. said this is fine for now.  If he's not completely switched to all solids by 18 months we'll see a feeding therapist}
  • drinks whole milk {about 20oz/day}
  • sleeps 12 hours at night {7pm-7am}
  • takes 2 naps a day {9am and 1pm}
  • loves to sing!
  • has started building with his blocks, rather than just throwing them around
  • knows the signs for: more, all done, milk, water, please, thank you, and bath
  • makes some animal noises
  • can say: Dada, apple, dog, Mama, balloon {and babbles tons of stuff I can't understand}
  • gives high fives
  • blows kisses
  • LOVES dogs
  • took a few independent steps last weekend!  {not officially walking yet}
  • loves to read books
  • has 8 teeth and the 2 bottom molars are poking through!
Asher isn't a mama's boy at all.  In fact, I kind of wish he was a little bit.  :o)  He certainly loves me and looks for me in the morning, but any other time of day Ash is happy with anyone who will play with him.  He adores his daddy!!   Asher gets so excited when he looks out the window and sees Drew pulling into the driveway - it's pretty darn adorable.

Asher Thomas, we love you so much.  You are absolutely the best decision we ever made.  Daddy and I love seeing how much you are learning and growing every day.  This stage of life is so fun!  Our hearts swell every morning when you greet us with a big smile.  You are absolutely living up to your name - happy is your typical demeanor!  Daddy and I feel so blessed to have you in our lives.

a trick up his sleeves

Yesterday towards the end of Asher's nap time I checked the monitor to see if he was stirring yet and was met with this sight.

I know it's kind of hard to see, but what's laying there is a naked boy.

Naked!

{well, he is still wearing a diaper - thank goodness!}

What's so interesting, Mommy?

Every morning I have to wrestle Asher's little arms and legs into clothes, so I have no clue how he managed to get them off.  You'd think at least there would have been some noise accompanying the disrobing, but no - silent.

He was so proud of himself.

Here's my pants, Mom!

During most naps he takes off his socks and throws them out of the crib, so he usually enjoys showing me where his socks are.  Now he got to show me the socks, pants, and shirt!

One of Asher's sleep rituals is throwing several stuffed toys and/or books out of his crib before he can sleep.  I tried just leaving his crib empty, but that won't do - he likes to throw everything out before he settles down.  I guess now we can add clothing to that mix!  ha!

I can promise you, the first time the diaper joins the pile will be the last.  I've heard duct tape works wonders to head off that little trick.

new look - updated!

I told you to hold onto your seats!  The updates continue!

I'm sure this is all very confusing for those of you who didn't see the blog this morning, but it has changed again.

Rather than doing it all myself I decided to do a combo of bought components and homemade goodies!  Thanks to Key Lime Designs for the awesome header and wallpaper background.

I still really love the light blue and pink combo that was up this morning - it will definitely be back at some point.  For now, I think this is it.  Thanks for all the great feedback blogging friends!

Back to all-about-Asher tomorrow...I promise.  :o)

new look!

I got a little tired of my old blog look and decided to try something new!

The turquoise and orange was feeling a little BRIGHT! so I toned it down a little.  It's still a work in progress - I have a perfectionist problem with this blog and tweak and tweak until it's time for a complete overhaul again.  ha!

I could never pay for a custom blog design because I get bored with how it looks too quickly.  Doing my own for free is much easier on my wallet!  I'm still not sure that this look is the one.

What do you think??

I might try something more 'scrapbook-y' - be on the watch for more changes!  I know you're all on the edges of your seats.  :o)

sympathy symptoms

Asher started doing this really hilarious fake cough the other week.  I don't know where it came from, but one time I coughed and he did too.  Now he does it every time anyone coughs.  So darn adorable.

I've been wanting to record him doing it, but just never got around to it.  Then this morning he started doing this funny trick with his lips {any one know what it's called??} and I knew a video was in order pronto.

So, for all you who demanded more videos on the blog - here you go!

{and yes, he is in Christmas pajamas...in March.  I just can't justify buying him new ones when these still fit!  Note to self: next year buy Winter pjs, rather than Christmas ones

mini-me

Sometimes I can't tell who Asher looks like.

Then other times it's pretty obvious.

Drew can have his turn later this summer.
