We're in a food rut.
It seems like I'm feeding Asher the same. exact. foods. every day. I need some new ideas! Help, friends!
Currently Asher refuses to eat meat. We've tried cooked chicken and tuna - nope and nope. He has 2 molars with another one poking through, so I'm hoping once it comes in he'll have better chewing ability and willingness to eat meats.
Foods that Asher eats willingly {and often}:
cooked carrots
green beans
peaches
yogurt
apples/applesauce
any Gerber stage 3 meals
any Gerber toddler "stews"
Minestrone soup
lentil soup
peanut butter covered graham crackers
bananas
grilled cheese
ravioli {no sauce}
mac and cheese
sweet potatoes
Asher will usually only eat a few bites of any one food. He likes to eat a wide variety during each meal - is this common? I like him to get a balanced meal, so I'm fine with that - just wondering how many other kiddos do this too.
What do you feed your toddlers? Have any online meal resources or cookbooks to share?
Thanks!
Eli likes any kind of noodle, pasta or rice. But what we do is just make him a small plate of the same thing we're eating. Most of the time, we don't make him his own special meal. He eats what we eat.
ReplyDeleteAugustine eats the same things we eat most of the time. He doesn't like brats or bacon. So he'll have a hot dog. I didn't want to get him started on hot dogs. However, grandma fixed them once and he loves them. I don't cut them up anymore. A big boy eats them whole with bbq sauce. I do get the turkey or kosher ones.
ReplyDeleteWhat about squash? Augustines eats his favorite food first. Then we have to say, take a drink before you get more of that or eat more peas before you get more fruit. He does pretty good and we have to stick to our guns for him to eat more variety. Otherwise, I think the boy would eat black olives and bread if it was his choice for every meal.
Parker loves pretty much all fruit, chicken dipped in ranch or chicken nuggets, refried beans, broccoli, muffins, cereal bars, yogurt, crackers, grilled cheese, pizza, chex mix, popcorn, some pasta, mashed potato, string cheese, hot dogs, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, bagel, waffles, pancakes, lasagna, cordon, bleu, nacho toppings - beans, mean, cheese, sour cream and tomatoes . . . and of course he loves them all best when he is able to feed himself and use silverware.
ReplyDeleteHe grazes somedays at meals, or flat out refuses things at times and we just roll with it, and don't worry to much about if he ate enough veggies, protein, etc . . .because even though he needs all the vitamins he gets them enough, and don't stress :) You're doing a great job with your cute little man.
I am extremely lucky because Jack eats basically anything. Tonight he ate potatoes, peas, and cheesy turkey meatloaf. He'll pick his favorite food (potatoes) and eat all of it first, but he eventually makes his way to the other food and eats everything. A great resource with amazing kid-friendly recipes (and where I found the cheesy turkey meatloaf recipe) is www.weelicious.com. She is awesome and currently working on a cookbook.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried ground turkey? That is the first meat I tried with Jack. Once every few weeks I make pasta with meat sauce. He loves pasta and eats all of it first, but he does eat the meat. How can you say no to something drowned in a yummy sauce? :) Also, I made some yummy rice and meatballs that he seemed to really like. They also had a tomato sauce on them. Other than continuing to offer him a variety of foods, there's not much else you can do. Good luck!
This sounds kinda like....me. I like a little bit of a lot of different things!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely continue to offer him a variety and have things he's rejecting available to him to try again.
ReplyDeleteWill he eat beans? Ava loves beans (we're also limited with the no dairy for her thing, so beans are my go-to!). She also likes turkey pepperoni and turkey dogs, as well as turkey sausage :)
