weekend doings

We had an eventful, but uneventful weekend around here.  Lots going on, but nothing too exciting!

I put Hadley into the big tub with Asher the other day and she loved it!  I may need to wear a poncho while bathing them - there's a good deal of splashing now.  If it wasn't so tricky to record naked kids I'd post a video of the excitement.  :-)

Hadley has decided that bows and headbands are for the birds and has been tearing them out at every opportunity lately (noooo).  Her hair is so long in the front that it flops down in her eyes so I decided to try and braid it back.  ha!  Very silly, but fun for the first time.

Saturday morning dawned bright and tasty with these treats on our table...

I gave my craft room a much needed clean out.  The closet was overflowing with big boxes and scraps of fabric here and there.  Ridiculous!

I had a good helper, of course.

After all that work my helper was exhausted

and I had to get a few quick projects done!  A new tote bag for preschool for A

and a gussied up Target clearance tank top for H.

Hadley has become quite a beggar recently.  Asher loves his sister and was so sweet to offer her a bite of his banana.  I love catching them together.  :-)

By Sunday night everyone was up to their usual shenanigans.  

I love my silly family.

My guy has been coming up with the funniest stuff lately.  I heard about this app called InstaQuote and love it for preserving all these gems.  :-)

When Asher toots at the dinner table everyone knows about it...but at least we aren't afraid that wild cats might be roaming about.

I may have, in a moment of panic, stomped a bug or 2 in his presence.  Oops.

Hadley and I were dancing around and, apparently, I seemed particularly reckless.  Big brother to the rescue!

Then again, maybe I should have dropped her.  

My favorite is when he mixes up his words!  ha!

He said this about my pajama pants while patting my leg.  I make PJs look good.

He finally, finally wanted to use the bathroom by himself!  

This was funny at first, but has sort of become a problem because it's now his favorite thing to say.  Everything is "no ma'am Hadley" this or "no ma'am Hadley" that.  He's sort of bossy.

Seriously Spiderman, that's just rude of you.

I couldn't find him the other day and finally tracked him down in Drew's office.  He was busy working.  Naturally.

I swear up and down that we do NOT smell owwies around here.  I tried to tell Asher that "smelling cuts" isn't something people do, but he won't be deterred.  Silly boy.

I'll try to keep up with these better in the future so there aren't so many at once, but Asher seriously is SO funny these days and always keeps me guessing as to what he'll say next.  Love him!

his teeth, her height, and a little swimming

If summer's a hurricane, then the eye of it was over us last week.  Luckily our little vessel stayed on course and we're still chugging along!  First up, a dentist appointment for Asher.

He did so well!  I take him to a pediatric dentist, but after 2 unimpressive visits (on their part) we are finding someone new.  I like that they have cartoons showing in the treatment rooms - Asher needs distraction - but I do NOT like that when he was reluctant to open wide they were clearly exasperated with him and simply said "open up!  come on, open up!"  I mean, really?  It's a kids' dentist for pete's sake...surely, SURELY they have had nervous patients before.  I expected them to have better tools to deal with children but they don't so we're going elsewhere.  Minor rant, sorry, but they made me MAD.

Hadley didn't like how her brother was treated either.

At any rate, Asher did get his teeth brushed with the "big boy" dental brush and got a clean bill of health - no cavities, yay!

After the dentist Hadley got her turn when she went to the pediatrician for her 9 month check up.  She also got a great report!

Haddie is a tiny peanut with her height, weight, and head circumference all coming in at the 4th percentile.  Her doc assures me she is healthy, just on the small side.

She is doing great on all of her physical milestones and everyone is impressed with her ab strength.  Sister sits straight up and leaves all those around her in amazement.  It's actually kind of funny that her doctor mentioned it because every time I pick her up from the church nursery and YMCA child care it's the FIRST thing the care givers mention.  Not how cute or well tempered she is, it's "Wow.  She has strong abs."  hahaha!

No shots this time so we were aces all around.

After all our appointments we had to stop at the grocery store and Miss H sat up in the cart for the 1st time!  She is getting far too grown up and handled it like it was no big deal at all.  Asher loved being able to walk next to us and hang on the cart a bit.  :-)

Last week Asher also started swim lessons!  We've been swimming a lot this summer but Drew and I both knew it would be good for A to get some official lessons in.  He goes Monday-Thursday for 2 weeks.  The first lesson was tough.  Even though I sit right there and watch Asher has a hard time going with new adults (which I get).

After that first time he did wonderfully and even got an A+ in bubble blowing.  :-)

On Monday his teacher, Miss Sue, wasn't there and Asher had a complete meltdown.  What can I say, the kid doesn't roll with change very well.  Eek.  Yesterday she was back and Ash was SO excited to see her.  I guess they really got close during those first 4 lessons?  ha!

He has made a lot of progress, so now I need to find somewhere for him to continue lessons through the winter...

After swim lessons Asher and I do some one-on-one swim time while Hadley plays with the babies in the Y child care center.  It's so nice that A and I have this time together!  He (predictably) loves it when we drop H off.  I'm getting her out of the stroller in the hallway and Asher runs up to the baby gate in the doorway and yells, "Here she is!  NAME'S HADDIE!".  The care takers can't see me so, of course when I get to the door they're all staring like "who is this crazy kid??"  ha!

We've been running, running and wouldn't have it any other way!

the peas in our pod :: part two

I mentioned yesterday that Asher and Hadley were particularly loving this weekend and it truly did extend through the whole weekend!  The photos I posted yesterday were taken on Saturday night, but since I was so frustrated by the quality I decided to press my luck and ask them to pose again on Sunday morning before church.

I know I'm their mother, so this hardly counts, but I have to say,

THEY ARE TOO CUTE!

Drew was there and having a second person to position them and make funny faces makes ALL the difference, I'm convinced.  At first I had them in the rocking chair (Asher's request) but having to hold Hadley stressed him out a little.  Plus Ash saw an airplane which turned out to be an insurmountable distraction.

Then we moved to sitting on the porch and that was much better.  We are slowly, but surely, getting through to Asher that saying "smile" while looking off to the side isn't the same as actually smiling at the camera.  He did a great job 2 days in a row and earned a 9am lollipop.  :-)

We love these two so much!  It probably seems ridiculous that I photograph them all the time, but honestly, I know in a blink they will be grown and busy and I'll have missed it.  I also want to capture these smiling shots because honestly this is what they look like most of the time!

Of course, as I type this Asher is hollering "no ma'am, Hadley!" at her as she tries to drink from his water cup.  Gotta run.

These two were particularly loving this weekend.  On Saturday we went out for dinner and before we left I tried to get some pictures of my two sweethearts.

In my rush to preserve the memory of it all, most of my pictures ended up out of focus (boo - but at least I learned what not to do...).

I love them anyway!  Asher had the sweetest smile on and I can look through the blur to his adorable face beneath.  :-)

Daddy and I love you A and H and we really love seeing you interact more and more.

Miss H has made some great faces lately and I've been lucky enough to catch a few on camera.

Bless her - the girl's got no personality.  ha!

She might have had a little cold last week...

but didn't let it slow her down.

She keeps us in stitches for sure.

Except when she's sad.  Then we are all so very, very sad.

this kid

I feel like I have to sing this guy's praises a little bit today.

When Asher turned 3 he had a rough patch of disobeying, feeling out boundaries, and in general giving me a hard time.  I think that's pretty normal.

(but still not much fun)

Anyway he has been so wonderful recently!  Asher has been listening like a champ and taking responsibility for himself in some huge ways - like going to the bathroom without any reminders and cleaning up his toys.  He also helps me get the groceries.

and keeps us laughing.

These days I enjoy just being with him - he's my little buddy and we have so much fun together.  :-)

Love you so much Asher.  Daddy and I are proud of you and are so, so glad God blessed us with your sweet self!
