disney knows fun

I originally planned to post this yesterday, but ended up in the ER all day with dehydration from a stomach virus - yuck! Doing much better now and ready to celebrate the fun we had at Disney!

I know I've said this a few times already, but it's worth saying again...

Asher's first trip to Disney World was awesome! He had so much fun and so did Drew and I. :-)

I was a little worried that all of the crowds, lack of nap, mainly sugar diet, and just general excitement would = lots of toddler meltdowns, but Asher didn't have a single one. I don't think I was as impressed by this at the time as I should have been, but I'm thoroughly impressed now - go A!

Asher loved seeing his grandparents and spending this fun day with them.

As soon as we entered the park, there was a lot to see - live show, anyone?

I love that the Mickey ears are EVERYWHERE - even on the trolley horse's eye shields.

We stopped for some 'breakfast' {ie - a cinnamon roll the size of my head - ha!}

My favorite park of the Magic Kingdom is coming down Main Street and catching that first glimpse of Cinderella's castle. There really is something about it that makes everyone a kid. :-)

Our first ride of the day was Asher's all-time favorite, no matter where we go...the Carousel!

Disney gets 2 thumbs up from me for having such top notch safety straps that Asher was able to sit by himself.

Until I decided the seat was big enough for two and joined him. He was none too pleased - but I had fun - ha!

After the carousel we went on a few more rides, had lunch, and convinced Asher to take a cat nap in his stroller. Score! He woke up just in time for the afternoon parade. This boy loves a parade so we knew it'd be right up his alley.

We were right - he loved it!

How hilarious is he sporting his shades, by the way? Love him.

After the parade we happened across Frontier Donald Duck signing autographs. Asher didn't know Donald before today, but he adores any life sized character, so we took a chance and got in line.

Ash didn't disappoint and l-o-v-e-d meeting "duck" - asked about him constantly after this meeting. "Where's Duck? Duck??" ha!

It was a very full, very fun day at Disney World. Coming up tomorrow...breakfast with Mickey and his friends!!

starting out right

The much anticipated Florida vacation recap begins!

Last Wednesday we got into our hotel just in time to catch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom.

Asher loved seeing the monorail {or as he called it, 'choo-choo'} but wasn't a huge fan of the fireworks. Too loud, perhaps?

After he was such a trooper through the fireworks Drew and I decided a special snack was in order. Mickey Mouse ice cream pop, of course!

I swear Asher went from clean to chocolatey in 0.0002 seconds. ha!

Clean up was not as fun.

Here's what mama got. YUM!

Ice cream makes us thirsty.

We had a pack 'n play in our room for A, but he wasn't having any of it. Lucky Mommy got to share her bed with a toddler who is NOT used to sharing a bed. I didn't sleep so well that first night, but by the second night we had a system down. :-)

Up next: the Magic Kingdom!

wordless wednesday - disney world

We're back!!  Our trip was so wonderful.  Asher did amazing on the plane both directions {although the trip home was very bumpy, very rough} and had a lot of fun with his grandparents and Daddy.  I think he loves me too, just sees me more - ha!  The first thing he said this morning was "Da-dee!  Beach?  Pool?"  Poor guy - the end of vacation is hard for everyone!

We got some great photos, so, of course, there will be a re-cap coming soon!  For now, a little something special from our day at Disney...

magical times

I mentioned that we were heading off to another adventure and we did! Drew and I brought Asher down to Florida to see Disney World and visit his grandparents!

There are a ton of photos on my big camera, but I won't be going through those and editing them until next week. For now, here's the Instagram recap of our fun so far. :-)

At first Asher definitely thought the "adventure" we told him about was going to the airport to see planes up close. ha!

He was so, so good on the plane! Now that he's 2 we had to buy him a seat and I was very grateful - he's a bear to share with! We hooked him up with books and cars while the plane started out, then once we reached cruising altitude Asher could watch a movie on the iPad and all was right in the world. Of course he didn't nap AT ALL and I was pretty worried about how that would affect the rest of our day. This boy needs his nap!

Lucky for us he did absolutely awesome, despite no nap. Once we finally got to Disney World {we stayed at the Contmeporary Resort on site} he charmed his way into a few Mickey stickers from every attendant between the parking lot and the registration desk and was good to go.

We arrived just in time to watch fireworks from our balcony - that blue smear is Cinderella's castle - my iPhone couldn't really do it justice {to say the least...}. This was A's first time seeing fireworks and he wasn't a fan of all the loud booms. I thought he'd like the cool colors and designs they make, but he mostly just buried his face in my shoulder. Oh well - no big deal.

The next day we hit the Magic Kingdom with Grandma and Papa. I was a little unsure how it would go with a 2 year old but Ash had so much fun!!

We did a bunch of rides and shows, then {in a very uncharacteristic move} Ash took a nap in his stroller.

Going down...

And, he's out!

This is the 3rd time in his life that he's slept in the stroller. The parents were quite tickled.

Since no one was sure how this whole Disney thing would go over with Asher we decided to keep it to a one day adventure this time around. We ended our day with a character breakfast - which seriously sent Asher over the top. He l-o-v-e-d it!

We're living the relaxing life at Drew's parent's house now, so until you hear from me again, I'll be here...

getting a lift

I was looking through some photos tonight and came across these of Asher shooting hoops with my Dad a few weeks ago. I can't believe I forgot to post them at the time!

I just l-o-v-e how excited he is to dunk - ha!

After a successful shot there was a quick lesson in dribbling...

and a grateful hug for the ball {this boy melts. my. heart.}

Today we're starting another adventure - see you in a few with all the details!

reflections

Anyone notice his banana stuffed chipmunk cheeks? ha!

{and please, if you can, look past my filthy windows - once again, not sure how a bird tried to fly through them...}

{phone dump friday}

We had another string of adventures this week! Four out of five days were sunny and warm so Asher and I spent a lot of time outside.

This cloudless blue sky makes it hard to believe it was the end of February!

Asher got a new chair on Tuesday and I had the privilege of putting it together - ha!

A's OT had recommended that he eat with his feet flat and none of our dining chair/booster seat combos could make that happen. In case you're wondering, she wants him to eat with flat feet because of the sensory input that comes through the feet. We get a lot of sensory input through our feet and when Asher's were dangling he couldn't eat well because he was distracted trying to put them somewhere and "organize" his body.

This seat is a Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair and has a height adjustable seat and foot rest. It holds up to 200lbs and should last us forever! So far I really see an improvement in Asher's posture. He sits up a lot straighter and has less trouble eating. Hopefully the good trend will continue!

We celebrated Asher's last day in his booster seat by holding hands through dinner. A loves to hold hands and I'm grateful he's a righty while I'm a lefty - didn't interrupt either of our meals. :-)

Yesterday I just about had a heart attack when this huge bird flew into my kitchen windows. Holy cow - I don't know how it thought my dirty windows were fly through-able but it definitely got hurt. Like my bird shaped smear and feathers on the window? I checked outside and couldn't find him so I guess he was well enough to fly away!

Happy Friday everyone!

keeping busy

There's a lot to do around here that keeps a boy and his Mama busy.

For one, we go shopping. Lots and lots of shopping. Not only is it great 'heavy work' for Asher's OT homework it also keeps stuff off of my floor!

Play-Doh usually makes an appearance

and once in a while my iPhone entertains teaches him. Don't let your eyes deceive you - that's absolutely not Angry Birds.

We also draw on the easel...

and {on paper} on the floor.

I got a fun surprise today! Just the other day Asher and I were looking through his backpack and I showed him the crayon roll I made a few weeks ago. He gave it a quick look-see without breaking stride so I just figured it was more exciting to me than to him. But then this afternoon when I asked if he wanted to color, rather than going to the crayon cups on his easel he went right to his backpack and pulled out the roll. I couldn't believe he remembered about it!

Make me wonder what else I say that he seems uninterested in, but actually absorbs completely...ha ha!

And, of course, I entertain him with my jokes. Nothing brightens my day like a smiley Asher. :-)

How do you pass the time in winter??
