snow day

Last Wednesday we had our first snow day since moving south and it was so fun!  It started snowing around 6 Tuesday night so after H went to bed Asher and I went out to see the first flakes.  He was so excited!

The next morning the first words out of his mouth were "is the snow still here Mommy?  Can I go see it?"  So we did.

While Hadley took her morning nap Ash and I bundled up and ventured out.  Bundling up was the first challenge.  Since we don't regularly get snow around here I didn't want to invest in snow gear for him in the fall and, of course, there's none to be found now (but there are swimsuits.  Of course there are - it is February, after all.)  All I could find in the attic for this 4T boy were some 2T hand-me-down snow bibs he got in 2012 from his cousins in Maine.  In the immortal words of Tim Gunn, we made it work!  ha!

Honestly once we got outside Asher couldn't care less - he just loved the snow!

He was desperately hoping to make a bunch of snowballs to throw but the snow just wasn't packing so we had to make do with tossing handfuls of snow in the air.

And tasting a bit, of course.

Southern boy that he is now, A didn't believe me when I told him that getting his scooter out wasn't the best idea.  Small wheels + 3" of snow = stuck.  Guess who got to retrieve the scooter when it was abandoned in a drift?  This guy is such a Southern driver.

After 30 minutes we were pretty cold and decided to head inside for Phase 2:  cookies.

YUM.

Hadley woke up after we got the cookies out of the oven so we decided to take a second trip outside with little sister in tow this time.  She did NOT like being bundled up, but seemed to appreciate her cozy cocoon once we got outside.

Luckily our wagon was 4 wheel drive so we took a trip around the neighborhood to see what has going on.  Asher started out walking but eventually ended up here…

Pretty sure I heard them hollering "mush" at me a time or 2.

All in all we had a fantastic snow day here!  We really wish Daddy could have been home but he was freezing to death in that arctic tundra formerly known as Chicago.  -30, brrrrr.  After a couple days of being snow bound we were going a little stir crazy so the fact that all our snow melted over the weekend doesn't completely bum me out.  We are ready for school today! ha!

Happy Monday, friends!
