It was Hadley's first visit and I figured she'd just people watch, but she seemed to really see the animals and got a big kick out of the whole experience.
Asher loves animals and totally understood what was going on so, of course, he loved the whole day!
This zoo had a couple "up close and personal" exhibits which I thought was pretty cool. They both liked feeding the birds these seeded sticks.
Hadley had a little help from Grandpa. :-)
But Asher (and every other kid under 10 who unknowingly wandered into this part of the bird zone) freaked the heck out when the parrots swooped at him trying to get the nectar cup. He ran away screaming and I was left to distribute the nectar. These birds clearly get w-a-y more nectar than they need, yet they still fight over each cup. Sounds kind of like my kids at snack time, so I was in my element and definitely had the upper hand.
The other amazing exhibit were the giraffes!
The zoo built pavilions that have rails right at the giraffes height so you can see them very closely and feed them. Asher really liked "feeding those giraffes crackers" but didn't love it when they got too close.
Hadley just didn't like it at all.
I like that they both have a healthy appreciation of and respect for wild animals. :-)
While he was on a feeding roll Asher fed a deer! Kind of tame after the giraffes, but that might have been good.
Meanwhile Hadley practiced her walking - all around, everywhere.
"Asher, smile!"
"Hadley, smile!"
One of them may have done a bit better this particular day. ha!
These 3 goobers - I'm so glad they are mine. :-)
The zoo was a huge success! So fun!
