help a mama out

I need some help from all of you mommies of little girls.

Where do you buy all of those cute hair accessories that I see baby girls wearing?  This is a whole new world for me and I have no idea where to start!  Do you get hats with bows on them for newborns or do you recommend headbands?  I assume bows will only work once they have hair to clip into, right?

I must sound so stupid, but I really have no clue how this all works!  ha!

If you have a go-to website or Etsy shop for these sweet items I'd love to hear about it.  According to my pregnancy ticker the ladybug is coming in 100 days or less and there's no time to lose.  :-)

{I know a lot of people make their own bows and I hope to do that myself someday, but honestly, I'm sewing a ton and doing a couple other DIY projects in her nursery so that's just not happening before she's born...}

  1. These bows were my favorite for the newborn/infant stage when she didn't have a ton of hair to clip something onto. I used a q-tip with a dap of karo syrup and it would stay on all day! They are the perfect size for a little baby.

    Now that my daughter is older and has pretty much hair all of her flowers/bows are on alligator clips. She pretty much wears a flower all hours of the day and fortunately loves it so we don't ever deal with her pulling them out.

    If you have friends with little girls who use etsy, you should join their 'Circle' so you can see shops and/or items that they've listed as their favorites. That is how I've found lots of the sellers I buy from.

  2. The best place I've found is Etsy. You can find bows and headbands in every shape, color, and style. However, my 10-month-old is not as well-behaved as Andrea's daughter and she mostly pulls stuff out of her hair. Headbands come out right away but alligator clips stay in for a little bit until she realizes they're there. I'm hoping she'll be a little more tolerant as she gets bigger because she's just so darn cute with clips in her hair. Have fun!

    1. Another thing... I don't have any particular favorite shop because there are TONS of shops that sell clips and headbands. However, I would recommend getting a clip holder like this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/76852510/woodland-tree-with-pink-birdie-hair-clip?ref=sr_gallery_6&ga_search_query=hair+clip+holder&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_ref=auto12&ga_search_type=all. I find I use clips a lot more often because I can see them on the hanging ribbon, but would forget about them when they were all jumbled in a basket.

      And yes, the baby has to have a significant amount of hair for clips to stay put. Headbands or hats are good for brand new babies. I used both and probably found hats a little easier to use because headbands can slip off. However, both look absolutely adorable.

  3. I'm actually interested in the answers as a new girlie momma (well, at least in a few days here..). I did buy a bunch of pretty elastic, ribbon and flowers to make some for her and did a bunch before I got busy with the nursery sewing. I have a few coming from Mamabargains and etsy too. I was a bald bald baby so I have mostly head bands right now for her but a few of the flowers are on alligator clips so I can use them either way.

    If I find a good spot for them I'll totally share!
