bugaboo {24 weeks}

How did I miss 4 weeks of baby posting?? Poor ladybug, I'll try to do better from here on out. Today marks week 24 of our journey together! Wow! Not only do you show earlier with the 2nd baby, but the weeks go by faster as well.

This week baby bug is the size of a cantaloupe. Her big brother will be happy to hear about this because he l-o-v-e-s cantaloupe! The baby has reached a point in development where her chances of surviving outside the womb are fairly good - I'm still hoping she stays put for many more weeks before we have to think about life on the outside.

This pregnancy has definitely been harder for me physically than Asher's was. I'm still waiting for my burst of 2nd trimester energy to surge and I just don't think it's coming. Surely chasing a 2 year old around has something to do with that...

I've also had aches and pains way earlier with this baby than I did the first time around. I asked my midwife about it at my last visit since it seemed really early to have these kinds of pains and she basically said that it's totally normal to feel aches earlier with baby #2 because "things are already stretched out." Bleh - now that's a pretty picture. :-)

One GREAT thing about expecting the second bambino is that I felt movement earlier and her little punches and kicks are already really strong. Like, move my clothes around strong. I love that Drew has been able to feel her move a few times.

Since I've neglected these posts for a few weeks I'm going to make up for it with a super-special video bonus! I tried to record her kicking and caught a little bit of it. Let me just say - it feels stronger and looks more impressive in person. When the video first starts, watch the upper right {bottom of my belly, by the waistband} for a kick. There's also a pretty big one right around 32 seconds in.

How far along: 24 weeks

Net weight gain/loss: up 7.5 pounds

Maternity clothes: the bump is for real now, so I wear a lot of maternity Ts and gaucho pants - super comfy!

Stretch marks: none yet

Belly button: totally flat and moving quickly towards popping out

Sleep: hit or miss - about every other day I wake up at 3am to use the bathroom and can't fall back asleep for an hour or so.

Baby movement: yes - lots and strong!

Gender: it's a GIRL!

Food cravings: anything cold and crunchy; sweets

Food aversions: beef

What I miss: being able to handle the sun and heat - I'm wiped and dizzy after just a few minutes in the heat

Looking forward to: getting her nursery furniture ordered this week!

Best moment this week: last trip to Florida as a family of 3

Milestones: baby is very close to viability

  1. Your bump is very cute... sorry things are a bit more uncomfortable this time around.

Your post has made me think: now that I'll be starting a super-intense MBA program next month (and for the next two years), I have to push back when we can start trying for Baby #2. My originally planned to start trying this December (after Eli turns three), and then I was going to push it back a year, after I finish the fall 2013 semester (I'll graduate May 2014). But now... hmmmm.... I don't know!

  3. You look great! I love that first pic and how the trees create a nice frame around you. The little ladybug will be here before you know it! Can't wait to see pics of her nursery!

  5. You look gorgeous! I never got the 2nd trimester energy burst with Ethan or Mazie. Especially not with Mazie since I was so sick. I definitely agree with your midwife too. I had aches and pains early with Ethan (Even though it had been 8 years) and Even earlier with Mazie. Started at about 20 weeks with her. Its kinda crazy. your igaments are already stretched out. I hope you aren't feeling too terrible and that it's not too hot too much longer so you feel better. Love the video! Thanks for sharing!!! :)
